Our Mission

Our smart nanobiomaterials and nanomedicine (SNN) laboratory strives to understand and seek innovative solutions to pathologies of vascular, neuronal, and bone tissues and organs, by applying our strengths in experimental biomaterials, biomechanics, tissue engineering, image analysis, cellular and molecular biology, and nano-drug delivery. Our laboratory represents successful collaborations within the University of North Texas (UNT) and the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC), as well as outside collaborations at Cornell University, University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), UT Southwestern Medical Center, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Southern California, UCLA, UC San Francisco, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, etc. We are training the researchers of tomorrow with cutting-edge ideas and technology in the following specific research areas:


  • Development of novel biodegradable metallic implants for cardiovascular and orthopedic applications
  • Organic or Inorganic bioactive nanomaterial coatings on medical implants
  • Implant-tissue interfaces
